Within the scope of the TÜBİTAK 4007 Terme Science, Art and Culture Festival, various workshop activities were organized. One of these workshops was titled “Purifying Water with Natural Materials.” With the active participation of primary and secondary school students, the workshop conveyed—through hands-on demonstrations—the environmental and economic importance of treating water for reuse.

Throughout the workshop, students were introduced to the stages through which polluted water passes during treatment, the basic principles of physical, chemical, and biological treatment methods, and water recovery processes. Participants had the opportunity to observe the fundamental principles of water purification by designing and operating their own small-scale treatment setups.

Professor Feryal Akbal from the Ondokuz Mayıs University Department of Environmental Engineering provided information on the increasing global water stress, drought risks, and the importance of the sustainable use of water resources. Additionally, practical examples were given on water conservation and efficient use practices applicable at home, at school, and in daily life.

At the end of the workshop, students were reminded that water is not only a valuable resource but also one of the most important legacies for future generations when managed properly. The event was considered a significant contribution to raising early awareness of water conservation and received highly positive feedback from festival visitors.
