Within the scope of the TÜBİTAK 4007 Terme Science, Art and Culture Festival, the workshop titled “Recycling of Waste and the Circular Economy” was carried out with the active participation of primary and secondary school students. The event aimed to enhance environmental awareness and highlight the importance of sustainable resource use by allowing participants to experience the reuse potential of waste materials firsthand.

Throughout the workshop, students transformed various waste materials—such as plastics, paper, metal, and organic content—into artistic and functional products by combining them with their creativity. In doing so, they discovered that waste is not merely “trash,” but can provide economic, environmental, and aesthetic value when properly utilized.

Professor Nurdan Gamze TURAN, Director of the OMU Center for Environmental Problems Application and Research, explained through practical examples why the circular economy approach holds critical importance today and how efficient use of resources plays a key role in reducing environmental problems. At the end of the workshop, students’ creations were exhibited and shared with visitors.

The event was considered an important achievement in fostering environmental awareness among younger generations, raising consciousness about waste management, and promoting a culture of sustainable living. The workshop, which continued throughout the festival, attracted significant interest and received highly positive feedback from participants.
