Ondokuz Mayıs University (OMU) Faculty of Engineering, Environmental Engineering Department brought together its alumni and academic staff in a meaningful gathering organized to celebrate the 40th anniversary of graduating its first cohort. The “40th Anniversary Alumni Reunion,” held on Saturday, 18 October, became an unforgettable evening where long-standing friendships, memories, and professional solidarity were revived.
The event welcomed faculty members who have served in the department since its establishment, retired academics, and graduates from various years. In her opening speech, Professor Nurdan Gamze Turan, Chair of the Environmental Engineering Department, proudly highlighted the department’s 40-year academic legacy, its contributions to the field of environmental engineering, and the many successful graduates it has trained.
During the program, both faculty members and alumni emphasized the strong sense of unity the department has maintained over the decades, its vision leading scientific advancements, and its mission of raising environmentally conscious generations. Emotional moments were shared as memories from the past were recalled and hopes for the future were expressed.
The reunion continued with a dinner where graduates from different years reunited with old friends and exchanged experiences with younger alumni. A commemorative plaque prepared for the department’s 40th anniversary was presented to participants.
At the close of the event, members of the Environmental Engineering Department reiterated their commitment to sustaining unity, solidarity, and environmental awareness as a community. The night concluded with participants capturing the moment in group photographs, celebrating not just a department but a true “family.”
