The Environmental Engineering Department Meets Women Farmers in the “Women’s Touch in Agriculture Project” Training Program

Samsun Chamber of Commerce and Industry hosted the “Women’s Touch in Agriculture Project – Sustainable Agriculture, Food Safety and Environmental Awareness Training Program” organized by the TOBB Women Entrepreneurs Board on 27–28 November 2025. Within the scope of the program, Prof. Nurdan Gamze TURAN (Department Chair and Director of ÇEVSAM), Prof. Feryal AKBAL, Prof. Ayşe KULEYİN, Prof. Burcu ÖZKARAOVA, and Assoc. Prof. Hülya AYKAÇ ÖZEN delivered presentations in their respective fields of expertise.

The program featured the following presentations:

Prof. Nurdan Gamze TURAN: “Environmental Impact of Agricultural Waste, Waste Management in Rural Areas, and Recycling”

Prof. Feryal AKBAL: “Türkiye’s Water Potential, the Risk of Becoming Water-Scarce, Water Footprint, and Agricultural Water Use”

Prof. Ayşe KULEYİN: “Environmental Pollution and Biodiversity Loss”

Prof. Burcu ÖZKARAOVA: “Soil Health: Organic Matter, Erosion, Impacts of Incorrect Fertilizer Use & Factors Affecting Groundwater Resources and Their Protection”

Assoc. Prof. Hülya AYKAÇ ÖZEN: “Global Warming, the EU Green Deal, and Carbon Footprint”

Throughout the training program, women farmers showed strong interest in the sessions, which combined theoretical knowledge with practical recommendations. During the Q&A segments, participants shared their own experiences, contributing to a more interactive and productive learning environment. Enriched by the active participation of women farmers, the program concluded successfully with scientifically grounded presentations and mutual exchanges of ideas.
