
The “From Waste to Value: Artistic Design Contest”, organized by the Ondokuz Mayıs University Environmental Community, was held on Wednesday, December 23 in the Conference Hall of the Faculty of Engineering.
The event began with an opening speech by Prof. Dr. Nurdan Gamze Turan, Head of the Department of Environmental Engineering, addressing waste management, recycling culture, and sustainable environmental awareness. Prof. Dr. Turan emphasized that proper waste management can generate both environmental and economic benefits, highlighting the importance of transforming waste into value through creativity and innovative design approaches.
During the program, students created original works using recyclable materials such as plastic, cardboard, metal, glass, and textiles. These works were exhibited and evaluated by the participants. Based on criteria including aesthetics, creativity, use of recyclable materials, and functionality, the top-ranking competitors were awarded.
The Environmental Community expressed gratitude to all participating students and announced that similar social, cultural, and environmentally focused activities will continue to be organized in the future.
