Stakeholder Meeting Held within the Scope of the ALGAVA Project

A stakeholder meeting was successfully held within the scope of the ALGAVA: Utilization of Macroalgae Biofilter for Wastewater Treatment project, in which the Department of Environmental Engineering at Ondokuz Mayıs University Faculty of Engineering is a project partner. The project, supported by the European Union under the Interreg NEXT Black Sea Basin Programme (Subsidy Contract No: BSB-01314), aims to develop sustainable and nature-based solutions for wastewater treatment.

The meeting took place on April 8, 2026, at the Pink Meeting Room of the Faculty of Engineering. Representatives from Samsun Metropolitan Municipality, Directorate of Environmental Protection and Control, and the Samsun Provincial Directorate of the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, along with other relevant stakeholders, attended the event.

Following the opening remarks, the meeting began with an introduction to the ALGAVA project delivered by Prof. Dr. Emre Burcu Özkaraova. Subsequently, a presentation on floating wetlands as a nature-based solution highlighted their role in wastewater treatment and their environmental benefits. Real-life application examples were also shared, providing participants with practical insights.

In the project presentation delivered by the Research Coordinator, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Özgür Baytut, the technical scope, objectives, and expected outcomes of the ALGAVA project were explained in detail. In the later session of the meeting, opportunities for collaboration and mutual support among stakeholder institutions were discussed, and views were exchanged.

The event concluded with closing remarks and expressions of gratitude to all participants. This meeting marked an important step toward strengthening university–public sector collaboration and promoting innovative solutions in sustainable wastewater management.
